Hotel Workers Rising and Rising Together — the community alliance of hotel workers and community organizations will be publishing a report this March  — titled Invisible No Longer — on the working conditions at the non-union Hyatt Santa Clara, based on the community hearing held last November in Santa Clara.

We want this report to be as effective as possible in communicating our message to the community.  We invite you to preview a draft of the report and discuss your thoughts on the draft, as well as how we can best use the report to reach out to the community.

We are hosting the discussion on Wednesday, January 28, 2009 at 6 p.m. at the Local 19 office at 2302 Zanker Rd, San Jose.  Food will be provided.  Please RSVP!

Your ideas will be very important for us and for the Hyatt Santa Clara workers.

Thanks,
Calvin Miaw

MARCH FOR HOTEL WORKERS August 20, 2008

The first round of contract negotiations for Silicon Valley hotel workers started in early July.  Currently, San Jose housekeepers and dishwashers typically earn around $24,000 each year while the cost of basic needs for a family of four is over $65,000.  Hotel workers deserve a dignified future in Silicon Valley.

Workers and community members will march on September 4 for livable wages, humane workloads, respect, and dignity for all hotel workers.   Let’s send a message that the entire community stands together for justice!

When:  Thursday, September 4 at 4:30 p.m.

Where:  Meet in front of San Jose Convention Center at the water fountain.

TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN OUR COMMUNITIES!
