The first round of contract negotiations for Silicon Valley hotel workers started in early July.  Currently, San Jose housekeepers and dishwashers typically earn around $24,000 each year while the cost of basic needs for a family of four is over $65,000.  Hotel workers deserve a dignified future in Silicon Valley.

Workers and community members will march on September 4 for livable wages, humane workloads, respect, and dignity for all hotel workers.   Let’s send a message that the entire community stands together for justice!

Catholic Charities Refugee Program: Urgent Request

Can you help a refugee this summer - a mother and child, or an individual, or larger family? Do you have extra room where you could house someone for a month or two, and help us to welcome them into the country? We are expecting refugees from all over the world this month and next, incl. Burma, Bhutan, Sudan, Iraq - and we desperately need a hand.

Santa Clara County’s housing situation is very, very difficult this year. Our two Refugee Transitional Homes are full to capacity, and we’re finding it next to impossible to rent affordable apts or homes on short notice. For example, we have a family of six (parents, and 4 kids ages 10 months to 13 years) from Bhutan arriving today - and their housing just fell through.

70% of the 12 million refugees in the world today are women and kids - persecuted people who can’t go home, and most will never find safe haven elsewhere. Many of you have been wonderful advocates for refugees for years, and know that for reasons beyond our control, almost 70% of our refugee arrivals will come between July and September this year.

You won’t be alone - our case managers will help them with English classes, jobs, school enrollment for kids, housing - and lives will be quietly transformed. Theirs, and yours.

RAMS is a private, non-profit mental health agency that is committed

Founded in San Francisco’s Richmond District in 1974, our agency
offers comprehensive services that aim to meet the behavioral health,
social, vocational, and educational needs of the diverse community of
the San Francisco Area with special focus on the Asian & Pacific
Islander American and Russian-speaking populations.

Each year, RAMS serves over 7,500 adults, children, and families and
provides services in over 25 languages and dialects, including Asian
