Step up and walk with the AACI team to support our HIV program and the fight against HIV/AIDS at the 2009 Walk for AIDS Silicon Valley!

The walk will take place Sunday, October 18th from 10am – 12pm in San Jose.

It’s FREE to walk, but please help us raise money if you can! Every dollar counts.

We are walking to raise funds for AACI’s HIV program, one of only two non-clinical HIV testing sites in the county and the only program targeting the Asian American community.  With the current state budget elimination of HIV education/prevention funding, the program needs support now more than ever.

TO REGISTER:

1.    Sign up at our AACI team website: http://tiny.cc/AACI_AIDSwalk

2.    Choose Asian Americans for Community Involvement under AGENCY DESIGNATION (100% of the funds you raise will be donated directly to the AACI HIV Program.  If AACI is not designated, funds will be divided among the nine benefitting agencies.)

REGISTRATION IS FREE!  THE FIRST 50 ONLINE REGISTERED WALKERS WILL RECEIVE A FREE API AIDS AWARENESS T-SHIRT.

If you have any questions or would like more details, please contact:

Mark Molina at 408.975.2730 x 183 or Sedora Tantraphol at 408.975.2730 x 114.

Please see our flyer! Please invite friends & family to walk with you and thank you for your support!

Ghosts of the River

By Octavio Solís

Directed by Larry Reed

October 1-11, 2009

Mexican Heritage Plaza Theater, San José

San Jose-based Teatro Vision presents Ghosts of the River a play that incorporates shadow theater, masked actors, and live music along with Octavio Solís’ epic writing into a unique collection of vignettes of those who have encountered the Rio Grande throughout time: Mexican Revolution refugees fleeing from violence; narcotic rivalries that strew the river with the dead; and Border Patrol agents who toil against the tide of immigration and personal conscience. Produced by San Francisco’s Shadowlight Productions, Ghosts of the River shares the untold stories of both sides of the divide.

This will be a bilingual play with Spanish/English translation provided through subtitles. Special events include a free performance on October 4, a student matinees and post show talkbacks with the director, visit our website for more details

Mature Content: Parental Discretion Advised

Performed by the Lunatique Fantastique Ensemble

More About this Show

Beginning on February 19, 1942, approximately 120,000 ethnic Japanese and people of Japanese decent living on the United States west coast were forcibly removed from their homes and incarcerated in remote camps in the western United States. Over half of the 120,000 internees were children.

Lunatique Fantastique using images told by survivors and history text creates the story of one family and their struggle before, during and after life in an internment camp. Lunatique Fantastique ensemble members participated in research— interviewing surviving internees and people who were affected by the order.

This work is dedicated to the memory of Donna Nomura Dobkin, whose parents were sent to Topaz.

Performed by the Lunatique Fantastique ensemble: Jessica Binder, Kate Duffly, Ben Dziuba, Greg Frisbee, Susie Gaskill, Candice Milan, Aundi Taylor and Liebe Wetzel
