Since 1999, APALI is proud to offer a special summer class designed for students interested in exploring Asian American experience, community, leadership, and civic involvement.
This popular class helps students heighten community knowledge, identity awareness, civic interest, emotional growth, and personal empowerment.
Asian American experiences addressed include Filipino, Vietnamese/Southeast Asians, Korean, South Asian, Chinese, Japanese, Pacific Islander and more.
Students earn 8 units of UC/CSU transferable credit in an exciting five-week program featuring special speakers and panels, community field-trip, small group activities, group projects, alumni networking, and annual APALI banquet to celebrate graduation.
Since this is a De Anza College class, students must be at least entering high school juniors.
This acclaimed program has been featured in the San Jose Mercury News, Cupertino Courier, Sunnyvale Sun, and World Journal Daily News.

AADP’s 2nd Comedy Show Fundraiser Laugh for Lives will take place on February 27, 2009 (Friday), at the Palace of Fine Arts, San Francisco. Doors open at 6:30pm, show starts at 8:00pm. Seating is Open Seating (First come, First Served). Featuring an all-Asian cast of comedians starring Air Tabigue, Ali Wong, Dan Gabriel, Joey Guila, Kevin Shea and Headliner – Rex Navarrete.
Register to be a potential Marrow/Stem Cell donor and Be the ONE to save a life. Donor Registration at the event.
Laugh for Lives was started as an inspiration from Alan Maravilla – who’s cousin, Francis Agana passed away from Leukemia because he could not find a matching donor. Through this event, Alan hoped to raise awareness about the need for more Asian participation in the registry and to sign up more potential donors.

Washington, D.C. The Japanese American Citizens League (JACL) seeks applicants for its Daniel K. Inouye Fellowship, which will be in the JACL Washington, D.C. office. This fellowship will be focused on public policy advocacy as well as healthcare programs and issues of importance to the Asian Pacific American (APA) community at large. The fellowship is named for the Honorable Daniel K. Inouye, current United States senator from Hawaii, and is funded by Eli Lilly.
Responsibilities
• Monitor key legislative initiatives pertaining to healthcare, civil rights and social justice of importance to the JACL mission
• Implement or assist with JACL-sponsored health fairs and other programming
• Assist in the planning and execution of various events sponsored by the JACL
• Interact with other APA national organizations and the local JACL chapter
• Research and study policy areas as assigned, perform other general duties as requested
Qualifications
• Minimum four-year degree from an accredited college or university
• Excellent writing, analytical, organizational and computer skills
• Ability to take direction and follow through with assignments, must work well as a member of a team and have good interpersonal skills
• Be or become a member of the JACL and be familiar with the JACL and APA issues.
Guidelines
Interested applicants should submit a resume, writing sample, and the names and contact information for two references. The term of the fellowship will be for a time period of eight (8) to ten (10) months and may begin in January 2009 or later. Stipend will range from $1,800 to $2,200 per month, depending on qualifications. Submit application as soon as possible. Open until filled.

Vision New America’s Youth Leadership & Civic Engagement (YLCE) Program provides opportunities for young people to get involved and learn more about how government works at different levels by placing students in governmental and policy related offices in the Bay Area, Sacramento, and Washington D.C. Our YLCE Program trains local high school and college students to be leaders in advocacy, policy, and service.
