Catholic Charities Refugee Program: Urgent Request

Can you help a refugee this summer – a mother and child, or an individual, or larger family? Do you have extra room where you could house someone for a month or two, and help us to welcome them into the country? We are expecting refugees from all over the world this month and next, incl. Burma, Bhutan, Sudan, Iraq – and we desperately need a hand.

Santa Clara County’s housing situation is very, very difficult this year. Our two Refugee Transitional Homes are full to capacity, and we’re finding it next to impossible to rent affordable apts or homes on short notice. For example, we have a family of six (parents, and 4 kids ages 10 months to 13 years) from Bhutan arriving today – and their housing just fell through.

70% of the 12 million refugees in the world today are women and kids – persecuted people who can’t go home, and most will never find safe haven elsewhere. Many of you have been wonderful advocates for refugees for years, and know that for reasons beyond our control, almost 70% of our refugee arrivals will come between July and September this year.

You won’t be alone – our case managers will help them with English classes, jobs, school enrollment for kids, housing – and lives will be quietly transformed. Theirs, and yours.

Thanks for considering this request.

Warm regards,
Coleen

Hey Santa Clara County residents, Free Refrigerator replacement if you qualify. We have 500 refrigerators to give out in Santa Clara County.

If you have a refrigerator manufactured in 1992 or before, we can replace that old refrigerator under a PG&E program that helps get old appliances off the energy grid and helps Californians conserve energy.

There is no cost to you, no cost to the landlord, and we even recycle the old one for you. If you rent or if you own, we can get you a new fridge.

Qualifying is based on income guidelines set by the state and listed below. If you qualify, give us a call and we will start the process with you today. If you own or manage property and would like all of your fridges replaced, we can do that too. Tell your friends, tell your neighbors, tell your landlord, & tell your employees.

We are a nonprofit company managing state programs for the conservation of energy in California. Call us for assistance.

Central Coast Energy Service Inc., 1-888-728-3637 – leave a detailed message and we will get to you next. Mention the Santa Clara fridge program please.

Eligibility is determined by the last 30 days of income. Monthly income cannot exceed;

1 person $1838.50
2 people $2404.20
3 people $2969.89
4 people $3535.89
5 people $4101.28
6 people $4666.97
7 people $4773.04
8 people $4879.11

Training with Obama campaign co-chair Kamala Harris, Silicon Valley mega-fundraiser Mark Gorenberg, and grassroots fundraising consultant Judy Pope.

  • Barack Obama is counting on large numbers of individual donors to outweigh the lobbyists, PACs, and special interests on the other side.
  • Campaign finance rules give the advantage to people who can rally supporters. Five friends who contribute $500 each outweighs one mega-millionaire maxed out at $2300.
  • There has never been a better opportunity to bring young people into the political process.
  • Learn how you can organize your friends and coworkers to increase your political power.
